Horse Racing Trail

The Paoma Ancient Road was first opened during the Guangxu period of the Qing Dynasty. The ancestors gradually used the Xindian River in Taipei County and the Houdongkeng River Valley in Jiaoxi to cross the watershed and create a new, more convenient road. It allowed the ancestors to enter and exit Tamsui Hall and Jiaoxi to carry goods. An important diplomatic channel for trading and transporting people's livelihood supplies, it is one of the branches of the Tamlan Ancient Road. After renovation, the old view of the ancient road has been restored. The ancient road is five kilometers long, with an average width of 2.5 meters and a slope of 8%. It can be divided into three sections of landscape according to the topography. The first section passes through the rock wall of the valley for about 1.7 kilometers. During the hike, you can see ferns, vines, moss, stone beads, and springs. In the trumpet-shaped valley, Mr. Zhou Cheng, a famous calligrapher in Jiaoxi, inscribed "Horse Horse Road" with vigorous and powerful inscriptions. Walking on the Paoma Ancient Road, you will be greeted by various surprises at any time, such as the criss-crossed Lanyang Plain, the magnificent and cheerful Pacific Ocean, and the nostalgic Guishan Island. Every turn will reveal another face of Jiaoxi. Along the road, insects and birds chirped, and the breeze blew, which was indescribably comfortable. The middle section of the Acacia forest area is about 1.4 kilometers long. The trees are tall and the green shade blocks the sun. Occasionally, a few rays of sunlight shine through the gaps in the green leaves. The fallen leaves combine with the road soil, like a brown carpet, making it soft and flat when you walk on it. The latter section of the industrial road is about 1.9 kilometers, gradually leaving the mountains and forests and entering the urban area. The Paoma Ancient Trail is not only a natural classroom for studying nature. The only remaining wooden horse trails, floating cage cableways, mines, camps and other relics allow you to wander in nature and have a dialogue with the reclamation history of our ancestors.
